Senior Software/Knowledge Engineer

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement and maintain NuMedii’s big data platform across genomics, genetics, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals databases for the identification of new drug-indication hypotheses.
  • Work closely with data scientists and biologists on the team to implement solutions and create production environments.
  • Propose and evaluate new technologies to further enhance NuMedii’s analytical and drug development capabilities.

Basic qualifications are:

  • An MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or Bioinformatics with experience in Big Data
  • Proficiency in Python in a Linux/UNIX environment
  • Familiarity with database management systems RDMS (e.g. MySQL), NOSQL (e.g. Mongo) and RDF stores (e.g. Jena)
  • Experience developing software in an enterprise environment
  • Experience extracting knowledge from free text through NLP and ontologies
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred qualifications are:

  • 2-5 years in industry with some exposure to biological data (genes, pathways, drugs) and/or drug development
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills
  • Experience with the application of machine learning techniques to big data
  • Proficiency in R
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Creative and self-driven
